Off-highway motorcycle riding has occurred for many years in the Tillamook State Forest. An extensive network of trails varying from old forest roads to narrow technical trails, provide opportunities for beginner and expert riders. Off-highway motorcycle riding is an exciting and fun sport that entails a certain level of risk. The Oregon Department of Forestry strongly encourages all riders to wear proper protective riding gear including boots, chest protector, goggles, gloves and elbow and knee pads. Check the trail guide and trail signs for special designations.

As a motorcycle rider you need the following items:

• A Helmet.

• A Class II/III ATV sticker (even if licenced for street use).

• A valid drivers license.

• A Class III OHV operators permit.

• Be accompanied by someone 18 years or older who has a valid license or operators permit if you are a minor.

• Adequate muffler- under 99 decibels

• USFS approved spark Arrestor.

• Working headlight and taillight if you decide to take a night ride.

A Child at between 7 and 12 years of age must have:

• A Helmet.

• A class III OHV operators permit;

• Be accompanied by someone 18 years or older who has a valid license or operators permit.

• Adequate muffler- under 99 decibels

• USFS approved spark Arrestor

• Working headlight and taillight if you decide to take a night ride.

Quads and Three Wheelers:

Quad use has increased in recent years on the Tillamook State Forest. Quads are popular with trail riders, hunters, and people wishing to explore the forest. Off-highway Quad riding is an exciting and fun sport that entails a certain level of risk. As a Quad rider you must have the following:

• Class I ATV sticker

• Valid drivers license; or

• A Class I OHV operators permit;

• or be accompanied by someone at least 18 with a license or operators permit

• USFS approved spark Arrestor

• Working headlight and taillight at night

Four Wheel Drives
Four-wheel drive routes vary from rough roads to difficult rocky terrain requiring skilled driving. Many of the trails designated as "Most Difficult" are steep, narrow and wind through the trees. Be prepared by equipping your 4WD with a winch a tree strap, tow hooks and strap, jack and spare tire, shovel, and water. When stopping on trails please park so that other traffic can pass. Stopping in the middle of the trail may create a hazard for others. Narrow trails and sharp turns can limit visibility. For safety, have the lead vehicle run with headlights and the tail vehicle run with parking lights on. Trails in the forest are designated and maintain for specific vehicle sizes. Do not cut trees if you cannot fit. Help preserve the challenging nature of the trails and leave no trace.

To operate a four-wheel drive on designated trails you need:

• Class II/III ATV sticker

• Valid Drivers license

• Operating muffler with baffles, under 99 decibels

Your ATV Funds At Work
The Oregon ATV Fund Grant program allocates money obtained from the purchase of ATV Stickers for maintenance and development of OHV opportunities throughout Oregon. On the Tillamook State Forest, ATV Funds have been used for the development of the trail map, purchase and installation of trail signs, trail bridge construction, law enforcement, and the improvements at Browns Camp. In the coming years, ATV funds will be used on the Tillamook State Forest to improve existing trails, develop new trails, make improvements to campgrounds and staging areas, and to develop trail maps for other OHV areas on the Forest.

Trail Restrictions
Forest operations may temporarily close roads and trails. Use caution near logging and road building activities. Do not ride through active logging sites or where heavy equipment is operating.The Oregon Department of Forestry and local OHV clubs are working on improving the trail system. This involves trail maintenance, new trail construction and bridge construction. This may result in temporary trail closures. To allow work to progress without interruption and to prevent further damage to the trail, please respect these temporary closures. Additional winter season restrictions may be imposed on certain trails to reduce erosion and trail damage to trails during the wet winter months. Riding on road cut banks causes erosion, filling drainage ditches with mud. This damages roads, impacts water quality, and creates a negative image of OHV riders and is illegal. Check with the Oregon Department of Forestry if you have questions about a specific riding area or trail.
The trail in this area are maintained for your use and enjoyment by local OHV clubs and the Department of Forestry. To protect the resource and enhance your riding experience, regulations governing OHV use have been adopted. Forest deputies are authorized to enforce these regulations throughout the forest. By riding and driving responsibility, you can reduce impacts to the trails, maintain a good image with others in the forest, and enhance your riding privileges.

• Stay on designated trails.

• Avoid riding on cut banks. Cut bank riding creates erosion which can fill drainage ditches along roads.

• Be courteous when encountering others. Ride slowly or stop especially when passing horses.

• Avoid riding on sensitive trails during the wet seasons.

• Respect gate closures and regulatory signs.

• Do not harass or chase wildlife.

• Do not harass or disturb the horse back riders

Improper OHV use can jeopardize everyone's opportunity to use the forest. In early spring and fall, rains typically saturate the ground making soil surfaces soft. Be aware of how your OHV use impacts water quality and the environment. Stay on trails designated for your type of vehicle so that new impacts are not established.

Noise Limits in the Forest
Excessive noise is not allowed and creates a negative image of OHV use. The maximum noise level for OHV's is 99 decibels. Mufflers can lose their effectiveness with time and may require repair or replacement. To help improve the image of OHV recreation and to protect your riding privilege, make sure your muffler is properly maintained and that your vehicle is not exceeding the maximum decibel level allowed.

ATV Stickers
Class II\III (motorcycles and 4WDs) stickers are available at the Glenwood store ( Hwy 6 at milepost 40). The fee is $7.50. They are also available at any Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office and at some motorcycle dealerships. The fee at the DMV is $7.00 for two years. The ATV stickers are good for two years.
Class I (quads and three wheelers) decals are available at any Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office. The fee is $10.00 for two years.
