Werner
Enterprises to Serve as Primary Sponsor of Clay
Millican/Lehman Racing at NHRA Carquest Auto
Parts Nationals
Werner
Enterprises, one of the top five truckload
carriers in the U.S., will serve as primary
sponsor for Clay Millican and the Lehman Racing
team at the NHRA Carquest Auto Parts Nationals
in Chicago on October 1-3, 2004.
"I am
very excited to have Werner's support during
this race," said Millican. "They have been a
partner of ours for several years, and it would
be really special to get our first NHRA win
together. I know the whole team is going to be
working hard to make that happen this weekend."
Werner
has been a longtime partner of Lehman Racing,
sponsoring the team for four years in the
International Hot Rod Association (IHRA), where
they are on the verge of winning a fourth
consecutive Top Fuel Championship. Werner has
also served as primary sponsor for the team in
numerous NHRA races, but this race marks the
first time since the 2003 NHRA Gatornationals
that the blue and yellow Werner car has taken a
pass down the track.
This
race is a sentimental favorite for Lehman Racing
team owner, Peter Lehman, who has lived in
Chicago and the surrounding area his entire
life. The Lehman Racing business offices are
also located in Chicago.
"Racing
in Chicago is always a lot of fun for me," said
Lehman. "This is the race track where we made
our NHRA debut (in 1998), so to have our Werner
Enterprises support us in this race is very
special. They have been the major sponsor of
our team for the past four years and we have
enjoyed many successes together during that
time."
Millican
is currently in the number 13 position in the
NHRA Top Fuel points standings after racing in
just 8 of 19 events. If he can maintain that
position until the end of the season, it will be
his highest NHRA career finish.
Millican
has advanced to three NHRA final rounds this
season, and has a 62% round winning percentage
for the season thus far. In his last race, the
NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Millican
advanced to the quarterfinal round, where he
lost to eventual event finalist Doug Kalitta.
