Dunn
hires Brooks as technical advisor
Jim
Dunn Racing announced today that Bob Brooks has
been hired as a technical advisor on the K&N
Filters/Red Line Oil Pontiac Firebird Funny Car.
"We
felt we needed more performance from our race
car," said team owner and crew chief Jim
Dunn. "We like Bob's outlook on things and
there's a mutual respect between us. Going out
and making the investment in a technical advisor
is something we've never done before, and
although it's new to us, we feel that it's going
to take the K & N Filters racing program to
the next level. There are a lot of changes going
on with these cars and we feel that bringing in
Bob will help our program become more
competitive."
Brooks,
61, of Lake Forest, Calif., has been involved in
the sport of drag racing since the early 1980s
and is recognized as an innovator of fuel car
clutch systems. The founder and president of
Applied Friction Techniques, Brooks has also
worked as a technical advisor for Kenny
Bernstein, Don Prudhomme, and Jerry Toliver. His
main focus with Jim Dunn Racing will be the
clutch management system and adapting the clutch
to the changing tire configurations.
"I've
known Jim for a long time," said Brooks.
"We've been racing against each other since
we were teenagers and have always been good
friends. Jim has a long, storied history in this
sport and I'm looking forward to this
opportunity to work with him and the rest of the
K&N Filters racing team. They've placed a
lot of confidence in me and I hope I can make a
contribution to their on-track success."
