Scott R. Smith named manager of communications for Indianapolis Raceway Park

GLENDORA, Calif. (March 7, 2002) - The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) has named Scott R. Smith manager of communications for Indianapolis Raceway Park, it was announced today.

Smith, a veteran producer for a variety of motorsports programs for the ESPN family of networks, will begin his new position effective immediately. "We're fortunate to have someone with Scott's talent and abilities take over this very important media relations position," said Ron Anderson, IRP general manager. "Through his years with ESPN, he has developed many positive relationships with many media members, both nationally and locally in Indianapolis. I'm certain that he will be a great asset to growing our diverse motorsports program at IRP."

In his new position, Smith will develop and implement the media plan for the multi-purpose motorsports facility, which is the annual host for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, drag racing's most prestigious event. In addition, IRP hosts Kroger SpeedFest, which features NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and USAC Sprint car events.

"I'm looking forward to this new challenge," said Smith. "I believe my knowledge of IRP and the surrounding area will help me to inform the media and the general public about the exciting racing programs that IRP offers. I have worked closely with many team, track and sanctioning body public relations officials through my work at ESPN and I look forward to utilizing my experiences gained over the years as a journalist to implement programs and procedures to help make the task of reporting on events at IRP an enjoyable one for our valued friends in the media."

From 1996-2001, Smith worked for ESPN's popular motorsports magazine, RPM 2NIGHT. He served as a field producer for NHRA, NASCAR, IRL and CART racing during his tenure there.

Smith is a native of Indianapolis and currently lives in Brownsburg, Ind. He is a 1994 graduate of Ball State University and holds a bachelor's degree in telecommunications with a minor in public relations.
