radius and 210mm (8.3 inches) of ground clearance, while a
steel-tube bumper and grill guard are standard. Suspension
duties are handled by an independent double wishbone coil over
dual shock arrangement in front, delivering a full 140mm (5.5
inches) of wheel travel, with a single shock swingarm rear
suspension also providing 140mm (5.5 inches) of wheel travel at
the rear.

automatically turns fuel flow on or off when the engine is
started or stopped. Durable steel wheels are mounted at all four
corners and braking duties are handled by dual 160mm (6.3
inches) discs combined with single-piston calipers up front with
a semi-sealed cable operated drum brake out back.

NEW MODEL: 2003 QUADSPORT Z400
Introducing the all new 2003 Suzuki QuadSport Z400. The Z400
is a totally new machine with an advanced high performance
powerplant, state of the art chassis, long-travel suspension
and five speed transmission all combined in a powerful,
nimble, and lightweight package.
Powering the 2003 QuadSport Z400 is a high performance 398cc
aluminum-alloy 90.0mm x 62.6mm, four stroke, liquid cooled,
DOHC single cylinder powerplant with four valves actuated by
cam lobes riding directly on bucket tappets. The cylinder
head features a narrow 28 degree included valve angle for a
compact, efficient combustion chamber with a 12.2:1
compression ratio. Fuel is supplied by a 36mm Mikuni
carburetor feeding 36mm intake valves, with exhaust leaving
through 29mm exhaust valves. A dry sump lubrication system
helps to create a more compact engine package.
The aluminum-alloy cylinder is plated with Suzuki's own
race-proven nickel phosphorus-silicon-carbide coating, known
as SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material), for
reduced weight and improved heat transfer, allowing for
tighter more efficient piston-to-cylinder clearance.
Additionally the piston is forged aluminum-alloy for even
more weight savings. A counter balancer shaft reduces
vibration, while an automatic cam chain tensioner and an
electronic CDI ignition simplify maintenance duties.
A manual five-speed transmission, with reverse gear
transmits horsepower to the wheels, while a handy knob on
the front left fender releases the reverse interlock to
select the reverse gear with final drive transmitted through
a O-ring sealed roller chain. Suzuki's own Start In Gear
System allows the engine to be started in any gear with the
left brake lever applied.
The QuadSport Z400 chassis features a lightweight, rigid,
high-tensile steel alloy tube frame and sub-frame, along
with an independent double-wishbone front suspension with
preload adjustable coil over shocks providing 210mm (8.3
inches) of wheel travel. Out back an aluminum alloy swingarm
rear suspension utilizes a single fully adjustable piggyback
reservoir shock with 231mm (9.1 inches) of wheel travel. A
tube-steel front bumper and high impact skid plate are
standard equipment as well as durable, serrated steel
footpegs for maximum grip and are vented to reduce mud build
up. Wheelbase measures 1245mm (49 inches) with a full 262mm
(10.3 inches) of ground clearance, with rolling stock
consisting of aluminum alloy wheels at all four corners
combined with Dunlop radial tires for maximum traction and
performance.
One look is all it takes to appreciate the QuadSport Z400's
sporty aggressive styling. The Z400 features a sharply
angled nose with stacked dual headlights, twin air intakes
and high mounted deeply flared front and rear fenders
creating the most unique and aggressive Suzuki ATV ever
built. The aggressive T-Shaped seat is narrow at the front
and flares out over the rear fenders allowing the rider to
comfortably shift his or her weight back and front and side
to side. Seat height is set at 810mm (31.2 inches) and
smoothly transitions between the seat bodywork and
lightweight 10 liter (2.65 gallon) fuel tank. A
multi-reflector taillight mounted at the rear includes a
running light as well as a brake light and completes the
aggressive look of the QuadSport Z400.
